Full name of the Project: EU Training Programme for Turkish Chamber/Commodity Exchange Executives

Category: "The EU Training Programme for Turkish Chamber Executives" is a part of the second phase of the EU-Turkey Chambers Forum (ETCF II), which is financially supported by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey. ETCF II is a two-year project launched in June 2011 and implemented by EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with TOBB, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

Abstract Within the context of the "EU Training Programme for Turkish Chamber Executives", Centre for European Studies at Middle East Technical University hosted 40 Turkish Chamber executives to train them on different EU policies in a way to improve their knowledge and skills for providing information, guidance, support and advice on EU policies to their members. Admission to the Training Programme was based on the applicants' professional experience and motivation as well as on the Chambers' commitment to develop EU services for their members.

For this second edition of the EU Training Programme, two levels of training programme in six modules were developed by the Eurochambres in cooperation with CES-METU:

o An entrance level for Turkish Chamber /Commodity Exchange executives who would like to gain expertise on EU affairs and introduce new services to their members on EU affairs.

o An advanced level for Turkish Chamber /Commodity Exchange executives who already have a background on EU affairs and would like to further develop their knowledge and improve the services provided to their members on EU affairs.

Six modules were implemented at the METU campus on the following dates and themes:

Module 1 "Introductory level" (Entrance level): 8-10 October 2012

Module 1 "Latest Developments in the EU and in EU-Turkey Relations" (Advanced level): 8-10 October 2012

Module 2 "Customs Union (part 1): Competition, Trade, Taxation and Customs" (Entrance level): 14-16 November 2012

Module 2 "Improve your access to the EU (part 1): Advocacy; Access to EU information, EU Statistics" (Advanced level): 14-15 November 2012.

Module 3 "Customs Union (part 2): Free Movement of Goods, Services and Capital" (Entrance level): 12-13 December 2012.

Module 3 "Improve your access to the EU (part 2): EU Budget, Public Procurement and EU Funding" (Advanced level): 13-14 December 2012.

Module 4 "Enterprise Policy and Innovation" (Entrance level): 15-18 January 2013.

Module 4 "Enterprise, Industrial and Innovation Policy / Regional Competitiveness" (Advance Level): 15-18 January 2013.

Module 5 "Social Policy, Employment, Free Movement of Workers, Health and Safety at Work" (Entrance Level): 20-22 February 2013

Module 5 "Trade and Access to Market / Transport" (Advance Level): 20-22 February 2013.

Module 6 "Agriculture and Rural Development, Food Quality and Safety, Environment" (Entrance Level): 21-22 March 2013.

Module 6 "Sustainable and Responsible Business" (Advance Level): 19-22 March 2013.

Project Leader and Partners: EUROCHAMBRES, the Association of European Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with TOBB, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

METU's role: Full implementation of the "EU Training Programme for Turkish Chamber Executives", including a Needs Analysis Meeting and 6 Training Modules for Entrance and Advanced Levels.
