Workshop – What's in Store for Turkey-EU Relations? (July 2023)

The proponents and opponents of Turkey's EU membership composed of enthusiastic young researchers and junior civil servants will have a timely discussion in a one-day-workshop in July 2023. As an interactive platform, MEDIATE, in the long term, will create a sustainable network and community of European Studies scholars and enthusiasts that will maintain cooperation and collaboration to foster an interactive dialogue between the academia and society even after the completion of the events.

MEDIATE aims to disseminate this accumulated knowledge on the current dynamics in Turkey-EU relations to students and young researchers from different universities, civil servants, civil society actors, representatives of the media, and our partners in the EU and the neighbourhood. The project will encourage its students and the participants to propose a session at the national social sciences conference, titled "Türkiye-AB İlişkilerinin Geleceği" ("The Future of Turkey-EU Relations"), at the Biannual Turkish Social Sciences Associations – TSBD National Congress in November 2023.

.

Post-graduate Conference – Current Issues in Turkey-EU Relations (September 2024)

The two-day post-graduate conference in English will be organised in September 2024, where dynamics that converge and/or diverge in Turkey-EU relations will be analysed from different perspectives. The event aims to provide an opportunity to gain expertise for graduate students who are prospective policy-makers; and to create a sustainable network and community of the students of European Studies.

.

Closing Event – The Future of European Studies (December 2024)

MEDIATE is not only about the current dynamics but also about the future of European studies in Turkey, specifically in the post-COVID-19 era. By teaching, learning, experiencing, internalising, and sustaining the idea of Europeanness, it will contribute to the decrease of the gap between the enthusiastic young and the reluctant senior policy-makers in Turkey about the future of Turkey-EU relations. In this respect, MEDIATE brings together policy-makers, scholars, and practitioners at the national and international levels on the future of the Turkey-EU relationship.

In this closure event, as a one-day event, will take place in December 2024 at METU and will be streamed online. The event will be hosting two Panels composed of senior academics and experts as well as senior civil servants about the Future of European Studies. The event might be the closing meeting, nevertheless, as all contents are recorded and posted online, a sustainable open-access public platform of active learning for anybody who is interested in the subject in the future will be provided.
